Nottingham Panthers Head Coach Danny Stewart paid tribute to his side after a hard-fought 4-1 victory in Wales against Cardiff Devils on Sunday night.
Panthers ended a run of three straight defeats with an impressive win, which was led by 29 saves from Kevin Carr and two goals by Cooper Zech.
Tim Doherty and Bryan Lemos were also on target as third-placed Panthers closed the gap on second-placed Cardiff to a point, with Stewart's side also having a game in hand.
Stewart said: "I am happy for the guys. We had a bad week. This league's tough and this was a good win.
"I liked our compete, I liked our physicality and I liked our charater. It was a good sign for our group considering our last week.
"Earlier in the season we went two months without losing in regulation-time, but teams keep coming at you.
"You drop a couple of games and start feeling the pressure a little bit, but to come into this building and put in a performance like that is a great sign for our guys."
Cardiff's only goal came in the second period from defenceman Jimmy Oligny and Devils Head Coach Paul Thompson was also full of praise for the Panthers.
"Panthers capitalised on all our mistakes," said Thompson. "They were far more clinical on the rush and far more clinical in the o-zone.
"They have that type of player and I think it showed. We worked hard but we lacked a little bit of quality.
"They were so good on the counter and we played into their hands."
