Panthers outshot the Flames 18-5 in the first period with Bryan Lemos hitting the underside of the bar and Ollie Betteridge the base of the right-hand post.
Chase Pearson, David Noël, Finlay Ulrick and Tim Doherty had shots saved by Taz Burman while at the other end, Carr denied Nick Seitz on a breakaway.
Flames lead at second intermission
Guildford had an early opportunity in the second session when Jamal Watson hit the base of the post.
Panthers continued to have chances with Noël, Didrik Henbrant, Cooper Zech and Jakob Stridsberg all going close.
But the Flames took the lead when a broken play saw the puck fall to Matt Alvaro who fired past Carr from the slot (37:03).

Carr made a superb save to deny Tyler Busch from close-range to keep the scores level.
