Nottingham Panthers defenceman Matt Spencer has signed a deal to return to the club for the 2025-26 campaign.
Spencer joined the Panthers in the summer of 2024 after becoming Danish champion with SønderjyskE and is now a two-time playoff winner following our 4-3 victory over Cardiff Devils last month in the Grand Final at the Motorpoint Arena.
He was one of only four players to ice in every game for the Panthers in 2024-25, scoring 20 points (4+16) in 54 regular-season matches and played 13 times in the Challenge Cup.
The blueliner contributed crucial points in the playoffs as he scored the empty-net goal in the 6-3 victory over Guildford Flames in the second leg of the quarter-final.
He also assisted on Sam Herr's game-winning goal in the 4-3 overtime victory against Sheffield Steelers in the semi-final.
Spencer, who was selected in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by Tampa Bay Lightning, said: "We had a really great group of guys last year and so many different types of characters that brought different energy and skills.
"It really helps when building a team and I feel we are doing that in Nottingham. Everyone wants to perform individually but everyone was working to a team goal and that's when you go to the next level.
"Playing in front of the Panthers fans was amazing and it was incredible to win a trophy and share that experience with the fans. It was such a great way to end the season."
Head Coach, Danny Stewart, said: "Matty is another one we are thrilled to get back and add to the core of returning players. He logged big minutes for us last season.
"His compete and defensive play enabled us to play him in all situations last season and play against other teams top lines. He plays physical and hard every night, but can also skate really well and allows him to contribute going the other way.
"We had a lot of faith in him last season in big moments, so it’s really good to have him back."

Panthers Season Tickets for the 2025-26 season are on sale and are the best-value way to watch the Panthers! The 2024-25 campaign saw 13 sold-out crowds at the Motorpoint Arena and thrilling action on the ice, so make sure you guarantee your seat to the action next season.
Existing season ticket holders have until close of business on Saturday 31st May 2025 to renew and retain their current seat at the renewal price before they are released to general sale. Phone lines close at 6pm.
The season ticket application window will close to all fans at close of business on Monday 30th June 2025.

The All-In Season Ticket offers outstanding value for money and was very popular last season.
It covers all Elite League regular-season games, all Challenge Cup home group games as well any subsequent home ties in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, a potential home playoff quarter-final and all home pre-season matches played by the Panthers.
